It looks like the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Wii U will have a new competitor joining them in the new year. Valve will be releasing its own Steam Machine, a gaming platform, made by third-party PC maker iBuyPower. The console is designed for gamers to enjoy Steam titles on the big screens in their living rooms.
According to Engadget, the Steam Machine platform will have two versions to it – one codenamed “Gordon” and the other one “Freeman”. It should definitely ring a bell if you’re familiar with Half-Life, one of Valve’s most successful titles. The console will be running on Steam’s OS, which is currently still under production. Hardware specs are still yet to be officially released, but iBuyPower claims that the hardware is designed to run all Steam games at a minimum of 1080p at 60 frames per second.
